Family Tree

Introduction

This is all the information that I know about my family, and everyone related to us, at least according to my parents and maternal aunt and uncle. (If you want to find out their names, see below!) If you think you are related to me, please let me know—I’d like to add your name to the tree. Eventually, I might try to find some public records and go back further, but so far, this is it. I’m also trying to make an attractive graphical presentation without doing too much work.

There’s a separate explanation of the notation, for those that are interested. I’ve also prepared a family tree of the Greek gods, mainly as a demonstration of the notation with a large volume of complex data that may have some familiarity, and a generic family tree that displays relationships by name. (This is useful if you need to check how a first-cousin-once-removed is noted, for example.)

            => Ronald Arthur Leverston-Allen
            Ronald George Leverston-Allen ‘Ron Allen’

The McCue siblings changed their name to Allen when their mother remarried, but Denzil changed his back to McCue. Thanks to Ron Allen.

            & Joan Clark => Boyce ______ (pianist)
               => Roy (?) Pannett+

The Mosses

This is my mother’s sister’s family. The earliest known Moss ancestor is a Hildreth; his daughter Alice married Thomas Moss, and they had 3 children.

      ______ Hildreth (engine driver) <= ______
         Alice Hildreth => Thomas Moss (joiner)
            Thomas William Moss ‘Willie’ (York) <= Doris Evelyn Fletcher (‘Mrs Moss’)

                  Louise Caroline Moss => David West
            Evelyn Moss => Cecil Fletcher
            Manfred Moss ‘Fred’+ <= ______

The Hildreths in the above are unrelated to the Hildreths who married into the Vokes family (as far as we know).

The Fletchers

This is my mother’s sister’s husband’s mother’s family.

      Thomas Fletcher (bricklayer’s labourer) <= ______ Wise
         Cecil Fletcher /sisl/ <= Evelyn Moss

            Beryl Fletcher => Benjamin ______
         Mabel Fletcher
         Doris Evelyn Fletcher => Thomas William Moss
         Gladys Fletcher

Close examination of this section will reveal an unusual relationship between the Mosses and the Fletchers: Thomas Moss married Doris Fletcher, and Cecil Fletcher married Evelyn Moss. So all the children of those unions would have shared the same 4 grandparents! This means that Geoffrey and Donald are the “double cousins” of Cecil, Mabel, Doris and Gladys.

The Sheards and the Heaths

The family of my brother’s girlfriend. Thanks to Ruth Sheard.

      Frank Sheard <= ______ Trindall
         Graham Sheard <= Ann Patricia Heath

            Benjamin Reeves

      Thomas Heath <= Ada Maude
         Ann Patricia Heath => Graham Sheard
         Peter Heath

      ______ Weisenberg ‘Grandma’ => ______ Valachove
         Bessie Valachove => Carl Lustig
            Herbert Lustig (San Francisco) <= ______

               Wendy Rosenthal (skiing instructor)

The Leitners and Harringtons

Jenny’s mother’s family.

      ______ Leitner <= ______

            Anna Leitner
            Joseph Leitner ‘Joe’ <= ______
               Alfred Leitner

Yes, it’s true—Johanna was married to Stephen, and then his brother John. Quite biblical! This means that Anna and Joseph are simultaneously ½-siblings and cousins of Edward and Johanna. Is there a word for this? Maybe ¾-siblings?
